HELLO & WELCOME!
I'm Ellyn - woodworker, artist and the creator of Ellynwood Designs. My small garage workshop is located on the Coast Salish territories of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) in beautiful Brackendale, British Columbia.

The natural systems that sustain life on this planet have always fascinated and guided me. I've completed scientific research on a wide range of environmental subjects from permafrost melt rates in the Arctic, to predator-prey interactions in coastal forests. I've worked a variety of jobs and enjoyed different aspects of each of them, but always felt a pull to slow-down, to live at nature's pace.
In 2020, I made a series of intricate ink drawings and wanted to recreate them in a more 3D, unique style. Through my searching I found a tool called the scroll saw, and started my woodworking journey.

My original artwork is inspired by the magic of nature. It's a reminder that we are not separate from the natural world, but an integral part of it. I believe that every component and creature, no matter how small, has a crucial part to play in maintaining the delicate balance of life. My art celebrates this intricate, interconnected web. It honors the vast mountain landscapes, the creatures that inhabit them, the plants that provide nourishment, the fungi that recycle life, and the continual cycles of life and death that shape our world. I hope to connect viewers with the wonder and responsibility we hold as custodians of this beautiful planet.

I also create custom ordered, one-of-a-kind wooden art and home decor. My custom work includes a little bit of everything - picture frames, name puzzles, furniture enhancements, business logo signs, thoughtful gifts based off your photos and more.

My process is inspired by concepts of minimalism and a circular economy. Working slowly, by hand allows me to minimize my impact on the environment - making use of upcycled materials and limiting waste throughout my process. I collect wood scraps from fellow wood professionals, local businesses and construction sites, as well as broken or unwanted wood furniture. I primarily work with Real Milk Paint Co. products -paints, and wood finishes that are non-toxic, biodegradable and food-safe.

I'm also proud to support Tree Canada. A portion of my sales are donated to support Tree Canada's efforts to grow better, greener places to live.
My maker story was printed in the 2024 Edition Eleven of the gorgeous international publication We Are Makers.

Thank you so much for being here - I hope my work makes you smile :)
